Now, we here, in the beautiful world of Hailing Mary Jane realize that our herbal loving brethren span across the racial rainbow and the seven seas. We strive hard to bring you news and articles of interest that appeal to everyone kind enough to stop into our humble blog for a visit.
Of course, writers are always looking for nifty ways to bring in more traffic and one of those sure fire ways is to employ the use of a grabbing headline much like San Francisco Weekly did in an article published on their site only hours ago. Chris Roberts’ recent article titled ” San Francisco Might Have More Medical Marijuana Users Than Black People ” did peak my curiosity enough to click it, but for all the wrong reasons.
Rather than thinking “this looks interesting”, I thought, “what the F*CK does that have to do with anything?”, and maybe that was the author’s intention.
The right way of doing that, IMO, is to simply use a more colorful description instead of the bland ass intro’s used by journalism mediums of yesteryear. At this point in time, what’s really considered news, anyway? As a writer, I can attest that once an article hits the internet, a few clicks later (depending on where in the world you live….a lot of things go down while you are sleeping!) that “Hot” article is suddenly ice cold by the time you log in to create your spin on things.
With that being said, I don’t think it’s cool to use not one, but TWO, targeted sub-cultures just to create a headline enticing enough to convince readers to click your link. The easier way of doing that would be to find articles that are interesting and then use marijuana to find a new creative angle on the topic or you can also stop smoking marijuana long enough to formulate an original idea.
Either way, you don’t use blacks and weed for your janky take on statistic; you report on a topic, you criticize a subject or you can create pieces to increase the knowledge of your readers of things they should be aware of, much like what I just did right here.
Say “NO” to racial tension and “YES” to positive cannabis love….get in the pit and try to love someone.
