Allen Iverson is on his way to Detroit

Hmmm… So some pretty big news came out of the NBA today. Allen Iverson was traded to the Pistons in exchange for Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess.

The Pistons and the Denver Nuggets have finalized a trade that sends guard Allen Iverson to Detroit in exchange for Pistons mainstays Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess.

Young center Cheikh Samb, selected by the Los Angeles Lakers for the Pistons with the 51st overall pick in the 2006 draft, will also be going to Denver in the deal.

“We are pleased to welcome Allen Iverson to the Pistons organization,” Dumars said in a statement. “Allen has proven he is one of the elite players in the league and we like what he adds to our roster at the guard position.

“We appreciate everything that Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb brought to the organization during their time here in Detroit and we certainly wish them all the best.”

Now on paper you’d think, ok Allen Iverson is better player so the Pistons got the better end of the deal but not so fast!

This Pistons have had this core nucleus of guys together for a few years now and we all know their window is closing but it’s not closed yet. A.I. will bring toughness and a proven scorer to the team but will he be able to mesh with them and will they be able to win together. That’s yet to be seen.

The plus side is once they lose again this year, Allen Iverson’s contract will expire and they will have a lot more cap room. This should be the last year that the Pistons are really competitive for a while.
