This story is late, and it’s because writing it actually hurts my fingers. It’s always been a dream for many people to go over to our more enlightened Europeans, and visit Amsterdam. There you can enjoy the coffee shops, and not worry about police or parents. You can get your blaze on, and enjoy the beautiful country of the Netherlands. Wait just a second…
So, in an effort to
alienate tourists curb the drugs floating through Amsterdam they’ve decided to outlaw coffee shops to foreigners. Ethnocentrism has never looked so ugly:
In an effort to curb drug tourism, promote healthier living and to better fight crime throughout its cities, the Dutch government is taking action to prevent foreign visitors from buying cannabis from “coffee shops.”
Under new laws, only Dutch residents would be able to sign up as members of cannabis shops. They would be required to sign up for at least a year’s membership and each shop would be expected to have only up to 1,500 members.
In terms of promoting healthy living, you can always blaze a spliff and go bike-riding. They’ve got some fabulous countryside in the Netherlands, but I guess that’s done. Excuse me, I have to go cry now.
