Australian police are using instagram tags like #aussiestoners #weedstagram and #oznugs to track down marijuana smokers in the area. Potheads all over are known to put their marijuana pictures out but if you live in Australia, it is recommended to be extremely careful.
A Victoria Police spokesman warned this week that “online dopes” would be tracked and prosecuted through photo-sharing websites, and would face hefty penalties if caught.
“Anyone who posts images of this nature may find themselves subject to a criminal investigation should there be evidence of possession or cultivation of drugs of dependence or illicit substances,” the spokesman told the Herald Sun, a Melbourne-based tabloid.
Many Australians have heard about the warnings but are undeterred. You can generally found hundreds of pictures of marijuana crops, buds and paraphanelia if you search any general marijuana tag. For example, #420 has over 800,000 photos attached to it.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this is happening in more places than just Australia but as NWA so eloquently put it, FUCK THA POLICE. Things like this make me wonder what they could accomplish if only they used their resources to fight real crime. Maybe we will find out one day.
