Baby Steps in Maryland

Why, with so many ready to re-legalize, do our elected leaders take only baby steps?  Still, we are moving in the right direction.  Maryland, this time.

House lawmakers will debate legislation, HB 105, to depenalize marijuana paraphernalia offenses involving minor amounts of marijuana.

In 2014, Maryland lawmakers amended state law so that minor marijuana possession offenses were no longer classified as a criminal misdemeanor. However, the possession of marijuana paraphernalia in such instances is still classified as a criminal offense.

Under this measure, certain marijuana paraphernalia offenses will similarly be reduced from a criminal misdemeanor to a civil offense and will no longer be punishable by an arrest or a criminal record.
