Blake’s Top 10 Sneakers of 2010

2010 brought plenty of rare releases, but a good shoe is not determined by the amount produced or how easy or hard they were to come by. So dont be disappointed to not see your favorite reissue or re-retro on here. Hit the jump to see my list of the Top 10 sneakers of the year.

10. Nike Hyperfuse Rajon Rondo PE

This was one of those shoes that had me anxious for 2010. It was hard picking a pair to go with but I had to give it to the Rajon Rondo PE version of this shoe (even though the Creamcicle colorway was a close second. Trust me when I say that Hyperfuses will be the Huarache of our generation.

9. Nike Zoom Huarache Trainer ‘WVU’

Anyone who knows me know that the Huarache Trainer is my favorite shoe and as a WVU student, my Mountaineer pride was enough to make sure I didn’t pass up this shoe. And honestly, how could any Trainer enthusiast? A college edition of a classic shoe brought up to date without comprising integrity or shape; say no more. If any of you Greenies knows where I can get another 8.5 for retail or less e-mail me at

8. Nike SB Dunk Hi ‘Thai Temples’

To celebrate Eric Koston to be welcomed to Nike Skateboarding team these and a pair of lows were released under his name. The lows were mostly made of blue canvas and had a gold swoosh but that wasn’t enough gold for me. Known for the Gotti-type golden temples, Koston’s Thai pride serves as the inspiration for this shoeG.

7. Air Force 1 Hi LE Premium ‘2010 All-Star Weekend 3M’

This dropped in a pack with patent AF1 lows and another Hi with white (perforated?) leather and a clear sole, it was the Hi laced in 3M that made my list. Light 3M for the entire upper and black 3M on the swoosh and panels, this shoe was topped off with black laces and an almost triple-black sole if it wasn’t for the Varsity Blue on the AIR.

6. Air Max Griffey 1 ‘Metallic Silver’

Air Max Griffey 1 is one of the reissues of 2009 as it released in 2 of the original colors but it was the metallic silver quickstrike which caught my eye. The fact that Nike decided to do a second widespread release of these for the people who couldn’t get to a Nike Sportswear retailer showed that they still somewhat care about us over there in Beaverton.

5. Air Jordan 1 ‘AJKO’

The perfect re-imagining of the Jordan 1 in canvas. The original bread pair would be a perfect execution of the pair from’85/’86 if it wasn’t for the decision to give these the ‘vintage’ look. The faux weathered sole definitely wasn’t a good look but it was nothing a little acetone couldn’t fix.

4. Adidas Originals JS Wings ‘3M’

If you hadn’t picked up on it before, I’m a huge fan of 3M. I sometimes which that I could go back and redo my favorite sneakers (colorways and all) in the reflective material and it was like my prayers were answered with these. Known by many as the guy who ‘makes those Adidas with the wings on them’, Jeremy Scott has been making this shoe for a minute with Adidas but this is the first pair I ever saw myself rocking. Don’t get it twisted though Greenies, Jeremy Scott has been doing his thing for a minute; Get Familiar.

3. Reebok ‘Nique’ Pump Omni Zone ‘Away’

After missing out last years’ Reebok (specific name) program and their samples which never saw the light of day; Jersey-Grown Packers got to release their own pair giving a nod to Dominique Wilkins with the use of the Atlanta Hawks away color jersey 1441 were released, you can still find your size for retail with enough searching.

2. Air Max LeBron VIII ‘Miami Beach’

What can I say about this shoe that hasn’t been said already? The black suede cement panels were icing on the cake for me with this shoe. This was the Air Yeezy of 2010. I know reselling is a hustle (word to Wale) but if you got these for retail I hope you wore them.

1. Air Jordan IX ‘Charcoal’

Say what you want, but if you’re any type of real Jordanhead, this sneaker would be
in your top 10 too. Fresh off of a 3-peat championship season Michael Jordan hit the world with a haymaker as he announced his retirement. With Jordan off playing baseball somewhere the power were faced with a difficult choice: continue the Air Jordan line or let it retire with their flagship star. I dont know about you; but im happy they decided to keep going. Now someone explain to me why if these are on sale in your local shoe store.
