I recently saw a post on either Twitter or Tumblr that someone had posted about rappers and how much their style has changed. It got me interested in what you all think about the direction rap is going. Is it more about talent and a message or how many fucking gold chains ya got hangin round your neck? Whatch think? Old school rappers or the new bling thing?

To be honest, who thought Rihanna didn’t smoke weed? She has made it pretty obvious with her latest video. I don’t listen to her music, so I don’t know if she even sings about it. I doubt she does, but that wouldn’t be surprising. Ri took to twitter while in Hawaii to let everyone know the kush is rolled. Hit the jump for more photos of Rihanna smoking.

Like years in the past we got a ton of great marijuana related songs in 2011. As you know we choose one or two songs a week to spotlight as our Stoner Song Of The Week. We don’t always choose the most popular ones, but the ones we like the best. So this isn’t the top 10 most popular weed songs of 2011. This is HMJ’s favorite weed songs of 2011. You will see artists you have never heard of but that have released good weed song this year. From underground to mainstream we have it all on our Stoner Song Of The Week posts. Here are our favorites from the year that was 2011.

1. Time – Organic Relaxation

Time is no stranger to HMJ. He is a real cool dude from Ohio who has been supported by HMJ for awhile now. This one landed on his mixtape Overgrind 2.

2. Project Pat ft Juicy J – Kelly Green

Project Pat released one of my favorite albums of the year called Loudpack. Unfortunately this was the only weed based song from the album, but one of my favorites of the year. Juicy J also had a ton of weed songs in 2011 but we think this is the best.

4. A$AP Rocky – Roll One Up (Prod By DJ Burn One)

A$AP Rocky was one of my favorite new artists of 2011. He created such a big buzz so quickly at the end of 2011. He dropped one of the best mixtapes too called LiveLoveA$AP. This was one of the few weed songs that made its way onto the tape. Plus we got Burn One on the beat which always makes for some southern sounding greatness.

5. Rickie Jacobs ft Rome – Next Fryday (Prod. Trey Michaels)

Mr. Jacobs from the DMV let go a very nice album this summer and also blessed us with a weed track for our 4/20/2011 Mixtape. With a sample from Dr. Dre’s Xplosive, Rome and Rickie make Fryday a much better day.

This is all my (Green) own opinion on people I’d like to smoke with in 2011.

A lot of big things happened in 2011 just like every other year. We had floods in Japan, Obama caught Bin laden, Occupying all over the world, civil wars in northern Africa, Micheal Jackson, Amy Winehouse and Steve Jobs all pass and plenty more. After saying that it sounds like 2011 was just a horrible year. But with bad there is always good. Obama got the troops out of Iraq, Instagram started, everyone finally got a twitter (which is good and bad), 3D movies took over, ESPN is playing European soccer and much more. With all the crazy news flooding our twitter and facebook timelines we sometimes forget about the individuals that do great things throughout the year. From the amazing job Steve Jobs did with apple to what 50 Cent is doing with SK. There was about ten people that caught my eye that really stood out to me. So I put together a list of the coolest people from 2011 that I would want to smoke with. Some may smoke others may not, that’s not the point here. Each person has done something I thought was either great, funny, or life changing in the year of 2011. From politicians to rappers to you. These are in no specific order.

1. David Karp

David Karp is the founder and CEO of Tumblr. It is by far the most addicting social network right behind twitter. Tumblr brings all the kids around the world that are just like you. It has every picture you could possibly think of plus a million you couldn’t. The internet has always been the place to find crazy pictures, but tumblr took a step further. I absolutely love tumblr so much. I can’t tell you how many times I have been late for something because I could not stop scrolling through tumblr. Follow us on tumblr here.

2. A$AP Rocky

A$AP is one of my favorite new artists of 2011. He released one amazing mixtape called Live.Love.A$AP on Halloween and it is still getting daily play. His swag, videos, and Harlem mixed with Texas lyrics have me feeling so trill while listening to it. Plus he has plenty of marijuana based songs. You know that goes a long way here at HMJ. 3. Ron Paul

To be honest I don’t have much to say about Ron Paul. You all know why I really like him. He is pro-marijuana 100% and fights for the 99%. He wants to make this country better for the majority of people not just the 1% like Bushy did. If he makes it, I will be voting for him for sure.

4. Joe Rogan

Who wouldn’t want to smoke with Fear Factor/UFC host Joe Rogan? If you wouldn’t please hit that ‘x’ at the top right of your page. He is one of my favorite marijuana activists. Since he is a comedian, it makes it so much better listening to him talk about the legalization of marijuana. My favorite line from him about legalizing marijuana to this day:

People say you can abuse marijuana. You can abuse cheeseburgers. Does that mean we should close Burger Kings.

He has had a big year with not only UFC but #FearFactorBack. I hope one day I am able to see him do live stand-up.

5. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

You may be wondering who the hell is this. Or some of you Transformer fans already know why she is on this list. She replaced Megan Fox in the third Transformers movie and I didn’t have a problem with that at all. She is one smoking hot model for Victoria Secret. I think it’s safe to say she is the sexiest new actress of 2011 (LOL).

6. Foster The People

Foster The People are my favorite band of 2011 and also have my favorite album of 2011. From start to finish their album is spectacular. I’m calling it a classic already, that’s how amazing it is. They bring Indie pop, indie rock, indietronica, and indie dance into one sound. It is truly amazing what they have done in the past two years. They released their debut album Torches this year and it peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 100. I hope they keep up this amazing music. Check some of their hits here.

7. Webbie

Webbie, Webbie, Webbie. What can I say about this Trill Ent rapper who had me laughing with everything he did this year. From getting banned from B.E.T and kicked out of WalMart to his obnoxious interviews. Oh did I mention he released Savage Life 3 too. If you follow me on twitter, you would know how much I like Trill Ent which is Lil Boosie and Webbie’s label. So I have mad support for anything Trill does. Webbie was banned from B.E.T for whispering unwanted sexual advances to co-host Rocsi (as you can see in the pic above). Plus he had countless interviews where he showed he does not give two fucks about what anyone thinks. At one point and I quote Weebie, ” I am B.E.T.” Only Webbie would have the audacity to say something like that after being banned from the station. Don’t forget the list I did about Webbie too, 8 Things Webbie Has Taught His Fans. Webbie, king of keeping the tags on his cloths.

8. Tyler The Creator

Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All! If you didn’t know what the hell OFWGKTA meant, there you go. Tyler The Masturbater is the leader of that gang of hooligans from the sunny state of California. He and OF are the most outrageous rap crew in hip-hop today. With countless mixtapes that go in on everything you can possibly think of to his vidieo for “Goblin” where he hangs himself at the end. Tyler is trully changing the or making his own lane in hip-hop. So much so that he won MTV’s Best New Aritst of 2011. Beating out Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, and Foster the People. All three of those artists are much bigger than him and all have major deals. He sold over 100,000 of his debut album without a huge label backing. Tyler does not have one of those. His group did it all on their own and grew to be one of the biggest groups in the music industry in 2011. Oh and he does smoke weed from time to time Greenies Ha!.

9. The 99%

We are the 99%! What they have done all over the country with the Occupy (insert city) has been truly an amazing thing. Although it might not have worked perfectly. They showed that we are here to take a stand against something that isn’t right. To that I salute you all and would love to smoke weed with all that smoke.

10. Curren$y

You know Curren$y is HMJ certified. We love everything him and the Jets do. From their music to lifestyle, we support. Curren$y has come a long way in his career. Going from my favorite label ever No Limits to Young Money then to completely independent and building the Jets. He has showed that you can stay independent and still do huge things. He really started getting big this year. I started noticing people around my area bumping his music and talking about him, finally! I’ve been waiting years for people to realize my favorite rapper.

2 Chainz

2 Cahinz formerly known as Tity Boi, from the group Duffle Bag Boys, has been on everything this year. From his two very solid mixtapes to crazy feature game. TRU REALigion being my favorite one out of the two. That tape is still in my whip and hasn’t left since the day it came out. He is getting play on MTV Jamz and is getting shows all over the US. I will be seeing him with Jeezy next month. TRUUUUUUU

Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa have been in talks about doing a movie together for us stoners. It is finally right around the corner. It looks like they stole used the same idea as Red & Meth did for How High. Except they are in high school. I’m not a huge fan of Wiz like I used to be, but Snoop has always been the man and very entertaining. The Mac and Devin Go To High School soundtrack, which is set to release on December 13th.Would this last in the top stoner movies ever? Shouts to BOE for the news.

Redman sits down for an interview with Montreality to talk about How High 2, Blackout 3, teen jobs, and much more. My main reason for watching this is because of the How High 2 status. From what Red said, there will not be a How High 2 in the near future since Universal owns all the rights. Red and Meth want to set up their own production company called Blunt Brothers Cinema (not final name). So they are working on their own movie. They are moving into Cheech and Chong stages and leave How High as a classic.

This shit is 2 funny!. u kinda gotta know the inner workings of our circle to fully get the whole shit but long story short DZA is the reigning 2k12 champ on our bus. Their is a vicious rivalry between DZA & K.R.I.T. , as u can see in the clip DZA is freestylin about his knicks, while K.R.I.T. beatboxes then switches up & starts rhyming bout his Bulls. There is also a lil spider prank played on dza that def caught him off guard. We end this episode with spitta & fiend discussing the 7 hour border ordeal the PO PO put us through. I spotted her months ago performing in NYC and knew one day she’s be a super star. So it was no surprise to me to find out that LA (Latasha Alcindor) has just been featured in the new “That’s Rocawear“ campaign.

In a little over a year she has accomplished a lot, luckily, I was able to snag some time with her and ask her a few questions. She’s a spit ball of a young women, very intelligent, and a fellow Greenie.

She’s bringing something fans of lyricism can really appreciate; not only is she a dope artist (unsigned for now), she’s also a playwright, a spoken word artist, and….well, you’ll see.

TRJ: What came first the poet or the rapper?

TRJ: Are you a rapper or are you an artist? Why and what’s the difference between the two?

LA: Ugh, my rap friends aren’t gonna like me for this, but (haha) I believe I am an artist who raps, and does a million other things along with rapping, such as writing poetry and plays and articles and dances and etc.  And I want to continue to do that and utilize my skills in other realms of art. Rap is an artform so I don’t know if there is a difference but I call myself an artist theoretically cause I can place myself in difference realms of performance art like theater and film.

TRJ: How old were you when you first began to write?

LA: My first poem was when I was 6. It was dumb love haiku that I didn’t understand. I hated any form of poetry that was controlled so I ventured off into my own world of freeverse and continued on til now.

LA: Toni Morrison, Nikki Giovanni, Edgar Allen Poe, Stacy Ann Chin, Gill Scott Heron, Nas and Plato.

LA: Take your time. You’re growing up to fast. Play.

LA: A lot of it is real life experiences as you will see in my next project “The L.A. Riots: Mental Fatality”, some of it surroundings but I don’t really like to discuss about other people because I rather judge myself first, unless these people are full of shit.

LA: I have three people, Kanye West, because he is the most misunderstood genius of our time. Janet Jackson, but old school Janet, because we are twins and because her voice is everything. Tina Turner…because damn it! Imagine L.A and Tina Turner on an album together, like what?!!! lol.

LA: The lack of mentorship in my eyes has caused a dramatic gap between the generations. Everybody just wants to get on or stay on and no one wants to teach through teaching. The older generations think they are the elite, the younger generations are the liberals. This is the revolutionary war all over again in a sense.

People are arrested for marijuana possession on a daily basis (every 36 seconds) and given the fact that it is almost routine to see a hip hop star here on HMJ shows that no one is safe from Johnny Law. In an incident that took place early this morning in Temple, Georgia current recording artist Soulja Boy of internet fame currently sits in jail after police found a currently undisclosed amount of marijuana inside of a rented Cadillac Escalade. Soulja, along with four other passengers, were taken to the Carroll County Jail and face felony charges. All of those arrested were said to be compliant with the officers requests and ‘went quietly’ so to speak.

Amongst the tree, Mr. Crank Dat was also said to be in possession of multiple pistols and about $70,000 in cash inside of the SUV. Incidentally I’m sure, Soulja Boy drops an autobiographical movie titled Soulja Boy: The Movie but his recent events can’t possibly be related…can they?

Over at Kush and OJ, they’ve come up with a term for rappers that find themselves in these situations. They call it the “Rap Tax”. If you drive around in a expensive car and you have 2 or more men (presumably black) with you, cops will assume you are either a drug dealer, or a rapper. Either way they make an excuse to search your car, they’ll find whatever amounts of weed and you’ll be forced to pay a fine. Whatever. Unfortunately for Soulja Boy he was carrying enough to be both a rapper and drug dealer and might see jail time behind it.

The Smokers Club Tour kicked off last night in New Haven, CT. I’m sure you could smell the weed in NY. Method Man, Curren$y, Big K.R.I.T, Smoke DZA just to name a few. They basically perform every single night in a new city until November 22. So I’m sure your town is somewhere near a concert of theirs. A few of our team memebers were at Spitta’s last concert in NY and it was hella hazey from what I heard. Make sure you come prepared with those joints rolled.
