Today’s Daily Drop brings us a shoe that was scheduled to drop tomorrow but the power-at-be made sure this shoe hit a day (or two) earlier then listed. In late 2009 Nike brought back the Air Griffey Max I and sneaker enthusiasts were ecstatic as this shoe hasn’t seen a retail shelf since 1996. After reissuing the Griffey 1 in both its “Freshwater” and “Volt” colorways to please the masses Nike released this as a Quickstrike in June at select Nike Sportswear shops around the country. This edition is draped in Metallic Platinum with black stitching, lining, sole, and accents. Head over to your local Footlocker to pick up this quiet re-release.

My recent return to the Bay Area has made two significant impacts on my currently bland life. For one, I have been able to enjoy some of the finest herb that this world has to offer, at an incredible discount from what I have become used to paying on the east coast – literally a half-off sale on buddah – and second, I have been able to reconnect with my other true love, the San Francisco Giants, in a way that only being in your own city can bring.

The intersection of the ballpark and the bong came with my first visit back to the hallowed ground by the bay that is AT&T Park. The standard pre-game parking lot fare of orange and black beads, cheap sunflower seeds and knockoff team apparel was joined by a relative newcomer; a bright orange t-shirt with a giant weed leaf behind the words “let Tim smoke!.”

For those of you who haven’t been paying attention lately (or not so lately for that matter) the Giants two-time Cy Young winning pitcher Tim Lincecum was recently caught in Washington state with 3.2 grams of marijuana and a pipe, he was cited for possession and released. In what I assume was an eighth from a dealer Lincecum will never be visiting again (that’s 0.3 off and not acceptable) or the bottom of a much more substantial sac one would expect a professional athlete to be carrying, Lincecum cemented himself as a hero among not only Bay Area sports fans, but stoners world wide.

I had heard about the shirts from a dealer friend who lost his cotton flag of solidarity in some hazy post-victory celebration a few weeks earlier, but did not think of its significance before seeing it myself hanging on the fence at the gate of Parking Lot A. It was at this game, an embarrassment to say the least, in which Lincecum got shelled by the Rockies, and looked, for the first time I’ve ever seen, outmatched by Colorado ace Ubaldo Jimenez.

This was the most recent in a series of outings by Lincecum in which he hasn’t pitched with his Cy Young-winning dominance. While I may be stretching for connections that don’t exist or even making a larger matter out of a fantastic pitcher simply going through a small slump, something that literally every great athlete has gone through at least once, but to me, Lincecum’s weed charge and his loss column are directly related.

For someone who grew up in Washington state, went to college in Seattle, has played all of his burgeoning professional years in San Francisco, and wanted to spend his first major league paycheck on a VW hippie bus, I imagine weed has been at least somewhat of a presence in Tim’s life for quite some time now. And as any longtime smoker can attest to, weening oneself off the pipe (or joint, or bong, or blunt) can often be harder than it sounds. Speaking from experience, this usually leads to more stress, less focus and an inability to sleep – all detrimental to a professional athlete.

Now I’m not suggesting putting a Volcano in the dugout (although I’m certainly not discouraging it) I do think that Lincecum may benefit from smoking some weed, if only to bring him back to where he was before.

So as a life-long Giants fan with nothing but the teams success in mind, I beg of you Giants management and front office, please let Tim smoke! At least if all goes well with the November elections, Tim will be able to toke up legally in the great state of California, hopefully bringing with it a World Series trophy to the city by the bay.

So imagine that you are at an excruciatingly boring baseball game that feels like it has been going on and on for hours despite the fact that it is only the top of the 3rd inning. You sit down to relax and fight yourself from dozing off multiple times and when you open your eyes all the sudden you see a baseball bat flying at you. A baseball bat that causes all of the people around you squirm up like a little coward except for the guy in the black shirt two rows back from you that just gives you a look like “damn that had to hurt.” Now that’s what I call a wake up call.

This story is ridiculous, but it highlights the growing chasm between the pro-marijuana contingent and the more traditional folks that can’t seem handle it. Read on to find out about the whole story.

Via Citypages via ireport from CNN

It seems that a Minnesota Twins fan was determined to be the “the first person to smoke weed at Target Field.” Target Field is the new home of the Minnesota Twins. One fan decided he wasn’t going to stand for it, and pointed out our tragic hero to the police. Here is his account from ireport:

In the 7th Inning a fan in front of us came back to his seat with a red pepper. He then began carving it out and reached into his pocket and pulled out weed. With dozens of fans watching he began smoking.

Throughout the game this guy was telling people around him that he was going to be the first person to smoke weed at Target Field. I got up immediately with the intent of having security watch him take a hit. I approached security rather than the individual because I was fed up with his stupidity throughout the whole game. Security walked over to him with his smoking device in his hands and gave him a warning. HE DID NOT GET KICKED OUT! They did not even make him throw away his red pepper. The individual claimed it was ‘oregano.’

The fan who narc’d had brought some children to the game, but why not politely approach the man and ask him to stop for the sake of the children? He wasn’t hurting anyone except himself with that awful pepper pipe.

Kudos to Twins security for not arresting the man. This country is getting more relaxed… What do you think Mary Janers?

Those of us in the Cincy area are used to the Reds having quiet offseasons. The last big signing I can remember was Griffey Jr., and while injuries hampered his contribution to the team, he put asses in the seats, especially on his march to 600 home runs.

Now we have Aroldis Chapman, from Cuba. In this video former Reds GM Jim Bowden, he brings up all the downsides to the $30 million signing, but I have to say, way to go Reds! When you’re in a small market and your team sucks balls (I’m sure that’s an official baseball term, and if not, it should be) you need to do something. I heard on the radio his fastball has been clocked at 102 mph.

So he might not have good control? Neither did Nolan Ryan, but he’s in the Hall of Fame with 7 no-hitters. Pitching is not a perfect science. As Chapman goes through the minors, we’ll have a chance to see if he can blow away major league hitters. So what if he walks 10 guys, as long as he strikes out 18. The Red’s bats are usually the problem anyway. Score the kid some runs and watch him win.

San Fransisco Giants ace pitcher Tim Lincecum was caught yesterday with a little bit of ganja on him by police during a traffic stop in his home state of Washington. He just got way cooler in my eyes.

An officer approached Lincecum’s 2006 Mercedes and smelled marijuana as the pitcher rolled down his window. Schatzel said Lincecum immediately complied with a request to hand over the drug and a marijuana pipe from the car’s center console.

The amount measured was 3.3 grams. Schatzel said police consider that a small amount for personal use, well below the maximum of 40 grams before possession is classified differently and carries a more severe penalty.

It should be noted that Lincecum led the national league in strike outs, finished 4th in wins and second in ERA. The weed obviously didn’t hurt him that much.
