Last night I was watchin a documentary about Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong on VH1 called “Lords of Revolution”. I was smokin’ on a fat ass blunt of dutch master and purple kush mix so you know I was in the mood for a good history lesson. After the show I was grateful for how many doors they opened for entertainers and stoners alike.
The 60’s was a time where the world was going through many changes. The United States had drafted it’s citizens to fight in the Vietnam War and President Nixon had declared a war on narcotics. These movements sparked a backlash of general disapproval and fueled a counter culture.
Cheech and Chong were a depiction of this counter culture. These hysterical comedy acts would consist of habitual drug use, promiscuous relationships, and an overall non consideration of authority. What it did at the time was spark an entertainment revolution which showed the world how popular this counter culture really was….
Its the stoner nation… The nation that drives trucks made out of weed or smokes 2ft. Joints. The nation that takes a lil piece of Amsterdam wherever they go, the community that just loves to party, get fucked up (off any drug/alcohol of choice), have sexual encounters, and supports peace.
So thank you Cheech and Chong for opening the doors for movies to be made such as Half Baked, How High, and Dazed and Confused.
Thank you for showing the world that this culture is HIGHLY populated and growing everyday… And we aint that bad!
Most of all thank you Cheech and Chong for helping us make the lewd behavior we find sacred and love to embrace an accepted form of entertainment.
