Connecticut Starts Medical Marijuana Program Monday, Oct 1st

On Monday, October 1st, Connecticut will become the 17th state in the US with an active medical marijuana program.

Those who suffer from diseases such as AIDS & HIV, cancer, glaucoma, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, cachexia, Chrohn’s disease, PTSD, nerve tissue damage, and other serious maladies will be considered for medical marijuana recommendation and possible treatment.

Some of the program restrictions include patients and caregivers are limited to only being in possession of up to one month’s amount of medicine which equates to 2.5 ounces, or 70 grams and patients are required to register with the Department of Consumer Protection. Pharmacies already in existence will be the only ones allowed to operate as dispensaries and there are only suppose to be 10 licensed growers statewide working at any point in time.

Provisions have also been made in the name of public nuances to prevent patients from medicating anywhere near those under the age of 18, in motor vehicles, and on any school property.

Gov. Malloy had this to say:

For years, we’ve heard from so many patients with chronic diseases who undergo treatments like chemotherapy or radiation and are denied the palliative benefits that medical marijuana would provide. With careful regulation and safeguards, this law will allow a doctor and a patient to decide what is in that patient’s best interest.

Those in Connecticut suffering from ailments approved for treatment can click HERE to register for their temporary card which makes possession of the approved 70 grams legal for those who qualify. It should be noted that at the time of program launch, Connecticut will have the most strict medical marijuana laws in the nation.
