People: If you’re housing an illegal marijuana grow room, DON’T call the cops for any reason! (This should go without saying, common sense much?) A couple reported a burglary from their home in Bloomfield, NJ last week. Someone had apparently broken into their home and stolen their safe.
Police were investigating the house when an officer smelled a familiar and pungent aroma wafting from downstairs found an extensive marijuana growing operation in the basement. The couple had 73 marijuana plants, lighting, ventilation and even an irrigation system specialized for growing pot. The tenant, a 35-year-old man, was arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, manufacturing and distributing plants, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of school and within 500 feet of a park. He’s now being held in Essex County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail. The woman, his 22-year-old girlfriend, was released and issued a court summons.
