Daily Joint – Venus In Furs
Artist: The Velvet Underground
Album: The Velvet Underground and Nico (released 1967)
Producer: Andy Warhol
Another classic rock song from a legendary rock group. The Velvet Underground were pioneers in the rock genre, and this song is a good example. An electric viola and an “ostrich tuned” guitar provide rhythmic vibrations that begin to lull you into a euphoric stupor (if you’re high that is; the song’s just as good sober though). The song is an close interpretation of a novel of the same name, by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch. The lyrics as well are pretty crazy, with talks of getting whipped, submission and “different colors, made of tears”. That line has always stuck with me, ever since I heard this video in middle school, from the Flip skateboard video “Sorry”.

Oh, how I adore the Underground. Too bad the rest of their albums suffered after Lou Reed left the band. "I'm Set Free" & "After Hours" are great smoking songs.
