Is Hipster the new Hater?
I have been looking for a specific definition of what a hipster is and I still have yet to find one. All I do know is that every time I go some where and there is art or cool things people say its the hipster area. Although no one ever really calls themselves a hipster. It’s like when you would ask someone what a hater was and there was not a specific definition but, it was something that no one ever really claimed. There sure was a bunch of them though. The idea of being cool by saying your not down with things that have become popular is not COOL. Oh man-I’m hating shit… I just became a Hipster by accident. Wait, you don’t care so what I’m trying to say? Style is like time, it passes and you can’t get it back. No it is not; style is like History it tends to repeat itself. What is the correlation between style, time and history. I would say if you pay attention to them you can get the story of a peoples consciousness. At the present moment to be popular is to be fake but the idea of being popular is what the machine sells. If you take a look at those of the Hipster hater culture it speaks to the individual. The idea is how do you take what is popular and make it your own. Being part of what is popular is synonymous with being part of the status quo. Who wants to be that, that is not cool. Status quo means that you are not thinking for yourself and that makes people feel like they are robots created in mass production. Well, that is what the industrial revolution was all about wasn’t it?
As we make this transformation to the new world hipster. Hating has come about to express the discontent of what we are being forced fed by the operators of the machine. It would seem to me the new trend is going back to the basics. If you ride a bike, still read paper back books, shop for vinyl, wear recycled vintage clothing, shop at Whole Foods and are a Vegan or Vegetarian. Then you are part of what is now becoming popular, and that is Being a Hipster. This is what history has taught us about style and the time. When the times are changing the style represents the expression of that change in the people. Hipster style is teaching us to break free and think for ourselves. With the wealth of information that we have available and the technology to present the information we gather at a moments notice, individuality has become the new normal. And that is why we hate on hipsters… Its all natural. History shows us that when things start to become out of balance something happens to bring things back into order. Popular culture has been programing us to be excessive and to over consume and doing things that are not in alignment with universal law.
What we have seen transpire in style, time and history is the disillusionment of the fear tactic called divided and conquer. The idea of, we have to protect our own and the only way to do that is to destroy and conquer, has proven to be the downfall of many a great civilizations Our EYE has been opened to the interconnectedness of life. The world has become a smaller place and as the most evolved inhabitants on this planet we have come to find that we are of one race… HUMAN.
The hipster is one that moves into the newly gentrified neighborhoods in metropolitan cities around the world and tries to embody the idea of the oneness of self and environment to be that agent of change in the consciousness. What’s to hate in that? Is it the fact that the people that claim to be “about that life” aren’t authentic in their style because they shop at Urban Outfitter, a company owned by the very people Hipsters claim not to be like. It is time for the real Hipsters to appear and define this extraordinary moment in history that we are fortunate to be alive in.
