You could recreate that scene (wherein Sean Penn, Anthony Edwards, and Eric Stoltz arrive at school in just such a VW van) in Fast Times at Ridgemount High. Looks like a piece of cr*p, but it would be cool to leave in the driveway and bake in from time to time with friends.
