Interview With Medical Marijuana Patient Who Was Fired For Medicating

In 2010 history was made when Joseph Casias was fired from Walmart for being a medical marijuana patient. Proving that Walmart sucks. This sparked a Walmart boycott (that we suggested but…) Marijuana Policy Project initiated. HMJ was there for this and we shared about how a worker who was named employee of the year at one point could be fired for using medical marijuana.

Why did he even need medical marijuana in the first place?

To treat pain he suffered from having an inoperable brain tumor and sinus cancer. He tried using pain medication prescribed by his oncologist but it did little for the pain. Big surprise. He didn’t smoke while he was working. He only did it in the privacy of his own home, yet he was still fired.

ACLU caught up with him and conducted an interview and we had to make sure the greenies knew this story. Stories like this are why it is so important for us to fight this fight, especially with the current disputes about medical marijuana laws in Michigan.
