Jason Kidd to Dallas: Potential homecoming for Jkidd
The Mavs seem close to winning the Jason Kidd contest. According to ESPN, the Mavericks were in serious trade discussions with Portland on a three-way deal that would send Kidd back back to his roots.
The Mavs drafted Kidd back in 1994. It didn’t last long there for him but he did manage to win rookie of the year. Makes you wonder what would’ve happened if that whole “three J’s” thing worked out.
In this potential trade, the Blazers would get Mavericks guard Devin Harris and possibly Mavs forward Brandon Bass, New Jersey would receive draft and financial considerations, Dallas’ Jerry Stackhouse and a trio of young prospects from Portland Travis Outlaw, Channing Frye and Jarrett Jack) while the Mavericks would score Kidd.
The talks have cooled recently but the Mavs should definitely try to go for this one. Kidd would bring experience and poise to an offense with a lot of weapons. He would really open on Terry, Nowitzki and Howard and they would become the team to beat in the west. Maybe they won’t collapse in the playoffs again.
