This war on drugs in the U.S., which focuses mainly on marijuana, has time and time again proven to be nothing more than a big waste of time and money. A jury in Missoula County, Montana is proof to this fact. Last week in Montana a group of jurors, who were chosen to sit in on a case charging a young man for the possession of a 16th of an ounce of marijuana, questioned why the matter had been taken to court and refused to serve. More individuals really need to follow the example set by this jury.
No, they said, one after the other. No way would they convict somebody for having a 16th of an ounce. In fact, one juror wondered why the county was wasting time and money prosecuting the case at all …
Luckily, the judge couldn’t seat a jury after their refusal to serve and worked out a not-guilty plea agreement with the defense attorney. I’m sure it does every Greenies’ heart good to hear that this jury actually took a stand against these anti-marijuana laws, but I just wish that more people would start following their example.
