My name is Lenny. I am an OG. HMJ is my baby and now I can officially say that because of it, I have traveled the world. As I am writing this I am sitting on a plane flying over the Atlantic Ocean, Amsterdam bound. I am about halfway through a 14 hour flight and after we land I will be attending the 25th annual Cannabis Cup put on by our incomparable friends from High Times Magazine.
This experience has been unbelievably surreal and I haven't even landed yet. It really made me reflect on how far HMJ has come since I started it using a desktop computer (with no desk) in Houston, Texas in 2007. I dreamed of being able to set my own work schedule, not answering to any 'boss', getting free things for sharing my opinion on them, and being able to travel. I only recently realized that I have accomplished much of what I set out to do and it wouldn't be possible without the greenies support.
Fuck with me.
The Cannabis Cup is an annual event that occurs in Amsterdam in which the top growers, vendors, and celebrities come together to celebrate marijuana,
smoke judge the best weed from around the world, learn about activism and the state marijuana around the world.
Make no mistake about it, this is the biggest marijuana event in the world. I have been trying to come to this event for the last four years but I could not afford to go until this year. This has been a year of tremendous growth and breakthrough for me so it is no surprise that it is culminating in this incredible trip going down.
High Times (and everyone else) was concerned that this might be the last Cannabis Cup because Dutch officials were in the process of passing a law that would have banned smoking marijuana to tourists. Fortunately this law was repealed by the new Dutch administration just a few weeks ago. Instead of this being a farewell party, it is a celebration party. This would be a big change from last years Cup that was raided by police.
We are making progress, people!
If you don't believe me, just ask the residents of Colorado and Washington. Ask the citizens who were on trial to be charged with marijuana laws that got dropped after the historic vote that legalized marijuana in two states.
This is the beginning of the end of the drug war and I am proud to see it. I am proud to be a part of it. I am proud to contribute. I am proud to not only speak to the next generation of stoners but to be the voice of a new generation.
Fuck with me.
This generation has to be different or humans are destined to follow in the same path that we have. With money, greed and power trumping human life, freedom, and getting high as hell. We cannot allow this to continue or the future of our country and our world will be extremely uncertain. We cannot allow that to happen. They say "you win some, you lose some," but greenies, this is a battle that we cannot afford to lose.
I will be live tweeting and showing lots of pics from Amsterdam on Instagram. Be sure to follow to see how it is going down if you we're not able to make it.
This trip is an incredible breakthrough for HMJ but this is just the beginning. HMJ will continue to be an incredible resource for stoners and we will continue to keep you guys informed on what is going on in the marijuana industry.
Stay tuned, greenies. Better times are coming.
Fuck with me.
PS - (update) so I landed and have arrived at the hotel. Made a stop in a coffee shop last night. Met some really cool European people and I walked around the city some. Reminds me of NYC, with a red light district. Here are some shots.
