As marijuana becomes an increasingly popular treatment (and pastime), more people want to know how to grow. Lucky Californians now have the Oaksterdam University to assist with this. Opening in 2007, the school instructs students in the marijuana business from seed to cashed bowl and currently offers classes in Oakland, Los Angeles and North Bay. Interest has been so high (pun intended) that the school has already started expanding to offer courses in more states. A chancellor from the school commented “Ten years ago I couldn’t get a room full of people to talk about this. Now people from across the country come to learn how to legally grow, distribute and profit with pot, even though it remains illegal under federal law.” (Like any die-hard pot-head cares.) As more people learn how to grow their own marijuana and understanding that legalization will decrease abuse and stigma, there will be less need for Drug Rehab .
Classes cover everything from the law and science of weed to lobbying to local government leaders. You can even learn how to dampen the sweet and potent smell of pot plants to discourage theft and raids. So far approximately 7,000 people have taken classes at Oaksterdam while scores of others have been placed on a waiting list for enrollment. (Add me to that bad boy, cuz I’ma need a PhD in this shit.)
