I was very surprised when I saw a big joint on the cover of the most current TIME magazine with the statement “Legalization went up in smoke, but ‘medicinal’ pot has gone mainstream.” They make very interesting points in the article basically stating that since Marijuana has been considered medicinal, it’s become extremely popular.
With 13 states already allowing Medical Marijuana Dispensaries to operate, about a dozen more considering and California alone bringing in a whopping $14 Billion annually in Medical Marijuana sales, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before the anti-pot Politicians sign that bill. Referring to Marijuana as medicinal has also allowed it to be less of a taboo to be talked about. Now we all know that we’ve always had our handful of celebrities that smoke pot, but they’ve been voicing it more lately. Late-night talk show host Chelsea Handler has no problem joking abut her sessions with pot and most recently Jamie Foxx & George Lopez both shared their favorite way to “medicate”.
I’m very excited that our culture has graced the cover of TIME, I feel as though maybe some who’s perception was negative on the issue can realize that Marijuana truly helps us in our daily lives and it’s beyond just getting stoned.
