I don’t even consider Ricky Hil just a rapper anymore. He does portray his style and Xanax dreams on songs like “Apple Juice” and his 500 Grams EP with Lex Luger. However, when you hear songs like “Anime” and “Ten Years After”; you can’t consider that rapping. It resembles an Alternative Hip-hop sound like Lana Del Rey. The small drum & bass sounds mixed with lyrics of medications of highs and lows make it very similar to her music. But that is what makes Ricky Hil such an interesting artist. He makes it more eager to hit play on the a new song because you don;t know what exactly you’re going to get at 3 in the morning.
He went on a binge release of music over the past two days with 6 new songs. Boo Bonic even released one too. “Off Probation” is my favorite out of the six. “Anime” was by far the most interesting and had a strong alternative hip-hop feel to me. SlickVILLE 2 will be out on September 10th. Everything else Ricky Hil can be found at This Is Ahughes.
