Yet another reason why I love living in the Bay Area. Just last Tuesday the Oakland City Council voted 5-2 in favor of a plan to license four production plants where marijuana would be grown, packaged and processed. Construction of these production plants wouldn’t start until January, and the measure will go up for a final vote but it isn’t expected to be overturned.
The even cooler thing about these plants is that they won’t be limited to a maximum size, one possible applicant for one of the plants wants to build a warehouse that will produce over 21,000 pounds a year. Let me repeat that for you, he wants to build a frigging marijuana production plant that will produce OVER 21,000 pounds ever year. These four factories will only be going to those that can and are willing to afford the big price tag that comes with it. Those wanting one of the four licenses would have to pay $211,000 in annual permit fees, carry $2 million worth of liability insurance and be prepared to devote up to 8 percent of gross sales to taxes.
This being passed before Prop 19 has even been voted on makes me believe even more that we Californian Stoners are going to get cannabis legalized on a State level for everyone 21+ and I love even more that I currently reside near the epicenter of awesomeness!
