Padres get Edmonds, D-Backs get Haren, Astros get Valverde, Dodgers get Hiroki Kuroda, Cubs get Fukodome

Jose ValverdeIt’s been a busy week for baseball. With the release of the Mitchell Report and the winter meetings going on. The D-Backs were one of the more active teams this week making two big deals. Many other teams have been busy trying to make improvements for next year too.

Diamondbacks acquire Haren and deal Valverde

The NL west champion Diamondbacks traded for the second best starting pitcher available this offseason behind Johan Santana. 27 year old Dan Haren is just entering his prime and was one of the top pitchers in the American League last year.

The D-Backs acquired Haren and Connor Robertson yesterday for six other guys: left-handers Brett Anderson, Dana Eveland and Greg Smith; infielder Chris Carter; and outfielders Aaron Cunningham and Carlos Gonzalez.

In a seperate deal the D-backs sent last years saves leader to the Astros for reliever Chad Qualls, infielder Chris Burke and right-hander Juan Gutierrez.

Valverde is a sick pitcher but he reminds me of some sort of demon beast from an alternate universe.

Ok correction, make that a demon beast from an alternate universe that is constipated and needs a laxative.

Jim Edmonds is going to San Diego

Ok correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t Jim Edmonds like 55 years old now? Why is he still playing?? I don’t know either but apparently there is still a demand for him, if you can’t get the other guys that you really want.

Hours after talks broke off with Mike Cameron, the San Diego Padres agreed in principle to acquire center fielder Jim Edmonds and cash from the St. Louis Cardinals for a minor leaguer.

The Asian Invasion continues

The bidding war for Japanese players has gotten out of control, this week the Dodgers got Hiroki Kuroda and the Cubs landed Kosuke Fukudome. Fukodome is described as very similiar to Ichiro only with more power. That should help the Cubbies.
