Pete Carroll going to the Falcons?

carroll.jpgESPN is reporting that Pete Carroll is interested in the Falcons vacancy at head Coach. He is in talks with Falcons owner Arthor Blank to get the position. Blank is expected to offer full control of personnel decisions to Carroll and the sources said that is what intrigues Carroll most.

This isn’t his first go-around with the NFL. In his first NFL head coaching stint, Carroll lasted just one season with the Jets, taking the team to a 6-10 record in 1994. He coached the Patriots for three seasons, 1997-99, and was 28-23, with one division title and two playoff berths.

This story really surprises me because I didn’t think that Arthur Blank would ever be interested in hiring another college coach after Bobby Petrino screwed them but it is what it is.

Do I think Carroll will leave? Not at all. USC is already being named by many experts as the team to beat in 2008. They were 11-2 last year and he really embodies USC. Even though he would have a lot of say if Blank does offer him full control, I still don’t see the Falcons becoming a contender or even a good job anytime soon. In 2-3 years he will end up getting fired and probably go back to college.
