Those of you who have never heard of Pete Maravich, you’re missing a big piece of basketball history.

He played college ball for his dad (who taught him the game at a very young age) at LSU, where in three seasons he averaged over 44 points a game (without the three point line). The Pistol remains the highest scorer in college history, despite the fact that players can now play all four years on the varsity team.

His NBA career wasn’t what it could have been because of a drinking problem, although he did win a NBA scoring title. He died at the age of 40, due to an unnoticed heart defect.

One of the most entertaining players to ever lace up a basketball shoe, enjoy “The Pistol.”
