2 days, 50+ rappers and a ton of weed smoke is how I would explain Rock The Bells Los Angeles. Rock The Bells and Guerilla Union gave us artists like Kid Cudi, Black Hippy, J.Cole and Tech N9NE. Along with the two greatest groups in hip-hop history known as Wu Tang Clan and Bone Thugs And Harmony. Not to mention both groups brought a hologram with them. BTNH with Eazy-E and Wu Tang with ODB. They made sure to bring the rising and underground stars for the 3 stages as well. Curren$y, Flatbush Zombies, Big KRIT, Dizzy Wright, The Internet, Earl, Riff Raff and many more.

It’s hard to see all the acts you want to see because of scheduled times. You have to pick and choose and that can be heartbreaking for people like me. I was only able to see Curren$y’s set for a short 3 songs. The haze of smoke amongst the crowd was the thickest of any set. I was able to catch ASAP Mob before Spitta. They were surprisingly the one of the only crews not wear leather. I didn’t get the whole leather thing in Cali, in the summer. ASAP mob killed it until they started getting to ASAP Ant and whoever else in the group. As soon as ASAP Ferg’s “Work” beat started to drop, there was instantly a fight in the grass. If only I had my camera out at that point. Dom Kennedy took stage just before ASAP Mob and had a huge crowd. He really has a huge following in Cali off that Yellow Tape. He said his album is coming gin October…sorry if I don’t believe him.

I spent most of the time at the Fool’s Gold stage aka the ratchet stage. It was all the way in the back and had artists like Juicy J, Riff Raff, Chief Keef, A-Trak, Pusha T and plenty more. The stage created plenty of mosh pits and one fight during Chief Keef’s set. I got to see Riff Raff, Flatbush Zombies, Chief Keef, Pusha T, Young Dirty Bastard, Danny Brown, Trinidad James, Too Short & E-40 and Juicy J. Can you say ratchet ass shit? I enjoyed all of there shows besides Young ODB because I barely know shit about ODB. He had a live band but it wasn’t enough for me.

We we’re all able to see Black Hippy and Bone Thugs N Harmony perform on the first night. Bone Thugs all did their thing like they’ve been doing this for 20 years. Bizzy on the other hand is loosing it. He can’t rap as fast as he used to and it looks like he’s just there for a check. It saddens me to see this and say this because he is my favorite member. Bizzy did try to answer every question we asked when we interviewed BTNH. That gave me hope he isn’t there just for a check. Wu Tang was also one of the historic groups to perform. They brought out ODB in a hologram much like Eazy-E with Bone Thugs. Method Man seemed to takeover their set which was pretty funny. GZA had to make sure he sounded smart to everyone when the hologram was being set up. Wu’s set had many more laughs than everyone else besides RiFF RAFF.

The Black Hippy members did things a little different, surprise! Jay Rock came out and performed two songs. Ab-Soul came out and performed two songs. Schoolboy Q came out and performed 3 and joked about bringing out K.Dot but never did. K.Dot came out and performed five songs with a live band. That was TDE’s set and I fucking loved it. They each got to be the spotlight and then K.Dot ended the show with a bang. The bang was so big that half of the venue left after Black Hippy finished. California really showed how much they support Black Hippy. Kid Cudi performed to half the crowd Black Hippy did and he was the headliner. Cudi had an amazing set without question. He talked a few times but stated it’s just music til the end, and that’s exactly what he did. He played all the smoker songs and classics. His stage did look like the mountain from Global Guts.

All and all, Rock The Bells was a success. We got interviews with Bone Thugs, YG, Danny Brown, Young Dirty Bastard and more. Look out for those in the very near future and a lot of video footage as well. Saw a bunch of spectacular rappers perform and smoked some good greens.  I look forward to the next one and Smoke Out Fest. We want to thank Rock The Bells and Guerilla Union for inviting us and showing us a great time. Also, big shout out to OCB Papers & Vanilla LA Inc. for providing ample OCB Premium French Rolling Papers!
