Rock The Bells Mountain View (Wrap Up)

This year’s 2nd Rock The Bells festival popped off in Mountain View, CA this past weekend with two days of hip hop & sun shine filled air. The weather was perfect with lots of sunshine and little heat, the masses were out to enjoy not just a concert but a festival of hip-hop.

Along with the artists performing on stage there were tents selling the latest in hip-hop clothing, a new addition to this year’s list of vendors were tents selling smoking glass! I’m talking full on Illadelph and Toro Glass bongs and macros, you couldn’t get past security with a bong but you sure could buy one as soon as you were in the event! There was even a rumor of one tent being shut down for allegedly selling edibles, so you could say things got a little weird this year!

The first day’s set of acts on the main stage included mostly new acts like Kid Cudi, J. Cole, 2 Chainz and Tyga, at the disappointment of some fans of the nine year old hip-hop festival, but nevertheless the fans were out and the performances were amazing. I was particularly hoping that Kid Cudi would bring out fellow Cleveland rapper Chip The Ripper like in San Bernadino, but alas Chip was not present, but Cudi still had a brand new song to perform for the audience.

But of course Rock The Bells is best known for it’s large line-up of old school and classic hip hop acts. In attendance this year were Ice Cube, Salt-N-Pepa, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, Methodman + Redman, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Nas and more! With so many new school acts in the line up this year it was exciting to see the veteran acts bring just as much energy, or even a lot more in some cases, than the younger artists rocking the main stage for the very first time. Never has this Greenie in his three years of attendance of the festival have I ever seen the lawn section so absolutely stuffed with fans trying to get an earful of top notch hip hop.

With all the incredible additions to the event over the past few years, it leaves this Greenie wondering what Guerilla Union is planning for next year’s round of festivals which marks 10 years Rock The Bells. After a decade of bell rockin, what could they possibly come up with next? Check the gallery below for some shots from the festival and keep your eyes peeled for more coverage from this round of Rock The Bells, and more from the last round of shows in New Jersey this weekend with a chance to win tickets from Hail Mary Jane!
