CC Sabathia Beats out Josh Beckett for the Cy Young award

CC Sabathia

Not that its any consolation but CC Sabathia finally beat Josh Beckett at something. Sabathia was announced as the american league MVP beating out Beckett and other worthy competition.

Sabathia had a sick season. He went 19-7 with a 3.21 ERA and 209 strikeouts. He was also a workhorse, leading the majors in innings pitched with 241. Beckett pitched 200 and 2/3 innings going 20-7 with a 3.27 ERA. The third place pitcher was the Los Angeles Angels John Lackey. Lackey lead the american league in ERA with 3.01. He also pitched for 224 innings going 19-9.

The last Indian pitcher to win the award was Gaylord Perry in 1972.

Luckily for Sabathia, the voting took place before the post season that saw Sabathia struggle while Beckett would pitch his team to a world series.
