Saipan Lawmaker Introduces Recreational Marijuana Bill

The Legalization, Regulation and Taxation of Cannabis Act of 2011 or Bill 17-175 was proposed yesterday by Rep. Stanley Torres of the Independant party. If passed, the bill allows those at least 21 years old to possess, transport, and cultivate cannabis for personal use. Growing for commercial sale however is also permitted as long as the crop is properly taxed and documented.

This isn’t the first bill of its kind however, as Torres had a similar bill killed about 4 months ago.

For those unfamiliar, Saipan is the largest of the islands in the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands that sits in the Pacific Ocean. If passed, this will be the first US territory to allow recreational cannabis use.
