5 Awesome Stoner Movies You Shouldn’t Miss

This is a Guest Post from our friends over at Weed Maps.

Everyone likes a good “Stoner” movie and here are five great ones that are a must see for any Mary Jane lover.

“[amazon_link id=”B000087LIM” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Next Friday[/amazon_link]”, the sequel to well-known stoner flick “Friday”, picks up where its predecessor left off, following the main character Craig (Ice Cube) out of the ghetto. The neighborhood bully Deebo (Tommy Lister Jr.), escapes from prison and the word on the street is that he is coming after Craig. Willy Jones (John Witherspoon), Craig’s father, takes his son to seek refuge with Craig’s Uncle Elroy and cousin Day-Day in the suburbs. Out in the burbs antics similar to that of the first film continue with Craig and his new sidekick, cousin Day-Day (Mike Epps). After a delivery of a delinquent tax notice arrives the two have to find a way keep the house from going into foreclosure. They decide to try to steal the needed funds from Mexican drug dealers that live next door. This movie has a little bit of everything, a sex crazed uncle, a stalker ex-girlfriend, drug dealers and an escape convict. Although it does not have the cult type following of the original film, “Next Friday” is every bit as funny and should be seen by anyone who enjoys a good classic stoner film.

“[amazon_link id=”B000EMGJAO” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Grandma’s Boy[/amazon_link]”, starring Allen Covert, is a Happy Madison Production that highlights many of the familiar faces usually featured in the company’s films such as Kevin Nealon, Peter Dante and Rob Schneider. The film follows 35 year old video game tester named Alex (Covert), as he is forced to find temporary housing with his grandmother and two of her senior citizen friends. The story follows Alex and his fellow game testers as they work on the development of a new game, all while Alex keeps his living arrangements a secret and insists that his new roommates are three hot chicks. With such a large generational gap, Alex finds his living situation to be quite frustrating. “My Grandma drank my pot” Alex exclaims, when he finds his grandmother has stumbled upon his marijuana stash and thinking it is tea has consumed it all. She also cleans his bong and displays it as a vase on the kitchen table. Happy Madison Production doesn’t disappoint with this hysterical quintessential gamer flick, an absolute must see.

2004 comic film “[amazon_link id=”B0002DKCMG” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Eurotrip[/amazon_link]” will make an awesome addition to any stoner movie collection. The film follows main character Scotty from Ohio to Europe in search of his German pen pal who has blocked him from her email. “Keep your hands off my genitals” Scotty writes to Mieke mistaking her for a guy. Soon realizing his blunder and feelings for Mieke, Scotty must travel through London, Paris, Amsterdam, Bratislava, Berlin and Rome to find her. Soccer hooligans, hash brownies with no hash, a bondage club, absinthe hallucinations, and a perverted Italian tourist are some of the wild adventures Scotty and his friends experience while on their trek through Europe. Although this film’s main characters are played by lesser known actors, the cast is every bit as funny as a star studded cast would be. “Eurotrip” is an absolutely hysterical film that can be enjoyed at any time but preferably high on Medical Marijuana.

“[amazon_link id=”B00103584Y” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Run Lola Run[/amazon_link]” is not the typical stoner movie however the premise, visuals and soundtrack are sure to be riveting and enhance any state of mind. It’s up to main character Lola (Franka Potente) to save the life of her boyfriend Manni (Moritz Bleibtreu), who botched his part in a smuggling job by leaving the money on a train. Lola has 20 minutes to obtain the cash to cover his debt and deliver it to Manni. Lola’s run to Manni is shot in a very unique way, almost as three separate movies in which the audience is able to see how mere seconds can change the outcome of all the characters. Each subtle encounter shows how the future changes in snap shots. The film is in German but is of no consequence to a non-German speaking audience as the visuals are strong and clear. “Run Lola Run” is a superb, mind twisting thriller that should not be overlooked as a stoner film.

“S[amazon_link id=”B00193F30E” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]uper Troopers[/amazon_link]” starring and written by the comedy group Broken Lizard features the pranks and hi-jinx of a fictional Vermont police department, the Highway Patrol. Throughout the film, deputies play pranks on a local rival police department, civilians and each other. The rivalry between the two police departments is heightened with the argument over jurisdiction in a case involving the smuggling of marijuana. “Super Troopers” is the type of movie that will leave audience members with an abundance of favorite lines and laughter ensues from beginning to end. Funnier every time it’s watched, “Super Troopers” is one stoner flick that should not be missed.

A good stoner film is generally a hi-jinx filled, feel good comedy like “Next Friday”, “Grandma’s Boy”, “Eurotrip” and “Super Troopers” but it can also take the form of a mind twister like “Run Lola Run”. These five flicks should not be missed by anyone who is looking for an awesome stoner film.
