On Wednesday November 24, the Drug Enforcement Administration exercised their powers by adding brand “K2” and their products to the emergency ban list for a year so Congress can go over the product to see if the ban should be extended permanently. Hit the jump to read more.
For those who aren’t aware of the brand K2, it is a herbal-looking substance that has popped up in gas stations and convenient stores around the country. Though advertised and packaged as an incense, the product is said sprayed with man-made chemicals named JWH-018 and JWH-073; two synthetic compounds are said to simulate the effects THC smoking of marijuana.
Said to have been created sometime during the 1990s, JWH-018 & 073 have been cited as being the reason K2, Spice, and other synthetic herbal products cause loss of paranoia, loss of conciousness, and even psychotic episodes in users.
It strikes me as odd that harmful substances like this could be legally manufactured and distributed and marijuana is illegal to grow. So for those of you who enjoy the sensation of these herbal incense enjoy while you can because the ban comes into effect on December 24.
