Wow. Just wow. I don’t even know where to start when it comes to how awesome the Boston Freedom Rally (aka Boston Hempfest) was this year. It took place on September 17th at high noon and as noted on HMJ, I had the opportunity to speak there. I was very fortunate that my speech came early in the day so that I was not too stoned. Had my speech been post 4:20, it probably would have been me forgetting a lot of what I wanted to talk about. Hit the jump for how the rest of this AMAZING event turned out.
I arrived on the Friday before the event very late. I was trying to make the preparty put on by Unregular Radio but I was not able to make it to that. Partially because I left way later than I expected and also because of the hotel scene. The reason I call it that is because it was like a cinematic scene of me getting into the hotel. Here is how it went down:
We arrived at the hotel only to find that I booked the room for the wrong weekend (blame it on the weed). In order to transfer the dates the hotel worker had to get confirmation from expedia that he would still be paid. According to him they had helped people who made that mistake before and then didn’t end up getting paid. After spending about 30 minutes going back and fourth between the hotel worker and expedia trying to get the sufficient paperwork, the hotel worker noticed that I had a cheech and chong shirt on. Our dialogue went something like:
Hotel Manager: Nice shirt.
Lenny: Thanks, I’m in town for the Boston Freedom Rally.
HM: Cool, do you have any samples?
L: ummm…. maybe…. is that going to help my cause?
Shortly after he got the paperwork he needed and without even fully looking at it he said that we could have the room. He also had just one room left and someone came in asking for the room but he said they were all booked up. Fortunately we had the 4:20 connection so he saved me the room and I proceeded to generously hook him up. Everyone was happy.
The actual rally was unbelievable. More than 30,000 people were there and they got to check out several amazing performers and speakers. High Times and skunk magazine editors stood out for me and the headlining performer was Termanology who ripped it. You can check videos of the highlights below.

Unregular radio also hosted the post party in which lots of weed was smoked. In fact, it was like a murder scene for weed. With guys Danny Danko and Bobby Black in the room, you could only imagine. Here is a pic of the aftermath.
Thanks to them, thanks to NORML, thanks to Mass Cann and Mike Cann for putting this event together and showing the HMJ team so much love out there!
