Washington State Moves Towards Legalization for Adults

Washington State voters may get a chance to vote for legalization.  Activists have filed a ballot initiative for the sanctioning of marijuana possession in Washington State.  One of the local sponsors is Director of Seattle’s Hempfest Vivian McPeak.  For more information keep reading. From the Seattle Post Intelligencer Blog:

Douglas Hiatt, a lawyer who represents medical marijuana patients, told the Associated Press after filing the initiative Monday, the proposal would remove all state penalties for pot possession by adults. Criminal penalties for juvenile possession and for providing the drug to juveniles would remain. Marijuana would still be illegal under federal law.

It’s become a hot button issue in Seattle with Mayor Mike McGinn in favor, and State Attorney General Rob McKenna against.  A bill, which has been introduced to decriminalize marijuana possession, has already earned the endorsement of three state lawmakers.  Democratic Representative Mary Lou Dickerson has also introduced a measure to legalize maurijuana for persons over the age of 21.  Both topics were discussed this past Wednesday.

If they legalize Psilocybin as well, I just might move there and start stalking Tom Robbins.
