Well, very few exciting games this week, as it seemed all of the good teams were playing bad teams, and the scores reflected it. One of the few good games was actually on in New York due to the Giants playing a night game so we got the pleasure of watching the Vikings go to Pittsburgh to play the champs. This game seemed like it should have been a defensive struggle on paper and it ended up being the Steel Curtain making two big plays in the 4th quarter to put up 14 points and give them the victory. Favre lost his first game as a Viking and has to go to Green Bay next week, I’m sure we won’t hear much about this one though. Watch the highlights as it was one of the few good games this week and you also get to see AP absolutely run over the Gay cornerback on Pitt.
The next good game to watch was unfortunately not put on in NY until the stupid Cowboys/Falcons game was over. The Boys were up by 2 scores and ran out the clock for the last 5 or 6 minutes so there was no reason to have it on. If it was a NY team I could understand but I have no clue what contract the TV people were under that they had to leave it on until the very end. Anyway, they showed the rest of the game with about 7 minutes left and we got to see the Saints pull away. I couldn’t believe that the dolphins went up 3 td’s in the first quarter but Brees and the Saints can put up lots of points in a short period of time so I didn’t think it was even close to over. A big pick 6 to start the second half took the life out of the Dolphins and then the Saints offense started clicking. Brees actually rushed for 2 scores and a double reverse scored Mr. Kardashian when he jumped about 7 yards into the end zone. Miami couldn’t run the ball that well in the second half and Chad Henne is just not going to win a shootout with Brees. Highlights are very entertaining and this was probably the best game of the week.
I really can’t remember a week in the last couple of years that had as many blowouts as yesterday. Out of 12 games 8 were completely over before the first quarter was over. I’m not even going to link to the highlights, they are just wastes of time unless you like watching good teams practice. Here are the scores, none of which were surprising:
Packers 31, Browns 3
Chargers 37, Chiefs 7
Colts 42, Rams 6
Texans 24, 49ers 21 (Not as close as it seemed, Texans were up 21-0 and 49ers scored real late to make it respectable but had no shot of winning)
Pats 35, Bucs 7 (I’m sure the Londoners watching this game were thrilled with this one, way to build up a fan base)
Bills 20, Panthers 9
Jets 38, Raiders 0
Bengals 45, Bears 10
Cowboys 37, Falcons 21 (Surprising that the Falcons didn’t play well, but the Cowboys were coming off a bye and were at home, Falcons never got close in the 4th)
The Sunday night game was the Giants vs. the Cardinals in a matchup of the last 2 NFC champs. The Giants were coming off getting their asses handed to them by the Saints last week and I guess the Cardinals were watching. The Cards put up 2 unanswered tds in the 2nd half for the win. I actually turned down free tickets to this game because the Yankees were on and in a clinching game so I was flipping to this game during commercial breaks but I really didn’t watch the whole thing. Here are the highlights. I’ll be doing a World Series preview tomorrow so I won’t brag about the Yanks until then.
