Yankees and Rays brawl: Its goin down in… Spring training?!?
So apparently tempers are flaring in spring training with the Yankees and the Rays. No it’s not a joke. Spring training.
The fire started four days ago when a home plate collision injured one of the Yankees catching prospects. They didn’t really like that too much so in todays game Heath Phillips was ejected for hitting Rays prospect Evan Longoria with a pitch.
Later in the second inning, Yanks first basemen Shelley Duncan slid hard with his spikes right into the Rays Akinori Iwamura’s sweet spot. That got Duncan tackled by the Rays Jonny Gomes who came all the way from right field. After that it went down and both of the benches cleared for a brawl.
Both sides are saying that this isn’t going to spill and continue into the season. Riiiiggghhht. Keep an eye on this one when these two teams get together again.
