You fired Willie Randolph for this?

Jerry Manuel

New York must have a curse on it right now or something. First you have the three ring circus aka the New York Knicks doing their best to ruin it’s reputation but now you have the Mets who are making a case to be the next Knicks.

Last week Willie Randolph was disgraced by being fired by the team in the middle of the night after a win and he was replaced with interim manager Jerry Manuel. Since getting the position only 6 days ago, Jerry has done his best to not only put his foot in his mouth but to serve himself his foot, fried and with a side of shit.

First you had his run in with struggling Shortstop Jose Reyes. After Reyes threw his helmet down during a temper tantrum in last Tuesday’s game, Manuel pulled him because he had a tight hamstring. Manuel proceeded to insult Reyes more than once. Yeah, thats exactly how you build team unity.

Shortstop Jose Reyes Jose Reyes was the target of Manuel’s first colorful outbursts this week. After Reyes threw a helmet-throwing tantrum last Tuesday night in Manuel’s debut when Manuel pulled him in the first inning with a tight hamstring, Manuel jokingly threatened to knife Reyes if it happened again.

“I told him the next time he does that, I’m going to get my blade out and cut him right on the field,” Manuel said. “I’m a gangster.”

Manuel also invoked Bill Parcells’ famous reference to Terry Glenn as “she” instead of “he” by doing the same thing to describe Reyes for his on-field fit.

“She acted up with me, and she had a day off,” Manuel said of Reyes.

If that wasn’t bad enough, when he was asked about the harsh treatment that reliever Aaron Heilman has been receiving, he compared Mets fans to shit fertilizer…

Asked how the struggling Heilman was holding up under constant booing at Shea this year, Manuel said: “It’s very, very fertile ground for growth in Shea Stadium. It’s fertile ground for a team’s growth and development. Sometimes, fertile ground has fertilizer.”

So not only is Jerry a master motivator but he is also doing his best to become a fan favorite. (Note the sarcasm in that last statement)
