Affiliate disclosure: how Hail Mary Jane makes money

Hail Mary Jane is paid through affiliate links: if you follow one and buy, the shop may pay us a commission at no extra cost to you. No affiliate programme is active today. When one is, every paid link is marked before you reach it, and no commission changes a verdict.

An affiliate link is an ordinary link to a shop that carries a code identifying us. If you follow it and buy something, the shop may pay us a share of the sale. You pay the same price either way. The shop, not you, pays the commission, and it usually sets a cookie in your browser so it can tell the sale came from us.

Where things stand today

We are not signed up to any affiliate programme at the moment, so the links on this site earn nothing. The deals page links straight to each brand’s own site with no tracking code.

The site has been online since 2008 and some older pages are still being rewritten. A few of those may carry a tracked link from a programme the old site used. Those links are marked exactly as described below, and they are being removed as the pages are rewritten.

Every paid link on the site is marked the same way, wherever it appears:

  • A notice above it. A one-line disclosure sits on the page before the first paid link, near the top, not in the footer.
  • An arrow and a dashed underline. A paid link in the text is underlined with a dashed line and followed by ↗.
  • Buttons say so too. A paid button carries the same ↗ arrow.

Links to BudFinders, our sibling site for menus, prices and dispensaries, are not paid. They are ours, so they carry no commission.

What a commission never changes

  • Verdicts. A review says what we found. A brand cannot pay to change it, and a commission rate is never a reason to rank one product above another.
  • What gets reviewed. A product is reviewed because readers want to know about it, not because it has a programme.
  • Placement. No brand can buy a place in a guide, a roundup or on the deals page. If we ever sell a sponsored placement, it will be labelled sponsored and kept apart from reviews.

Why we tell you

Because you should know who pays for what you are reading, before you act on it. This page and the notices on each page follow the US Federal Trade Commission’s Endorsement Guides, which ask for a clear disclosure placed where readers will see it.
